Morning Cast captures a Charleston shrimp boat casting out at sunrise.
Dramatically capturing the boat pushing over the breakwater, there is stillness in a moment likely the opposite. The piece is lovingly referred to internally as Lady J, after my wife, as I inscribed that on the boat.
This piece was made possible by Chris Buckman Photography, and their willingness to allow me to paint their piece in oil.

My first oil panting, Serenity, was inspired by a visit to Charleston.
Only previously painting with acrylics, Serenity stands as a reminder of where I began as an artist and sparked my love for oil painting and a love of the south.
The piece is painted with a softness to evoke a sense of tranquility and ease, with a looseness and understanding that we are never truly finished evolving.

Inspired by the topography of South Carolina, Intention was painted concurrently with Purpose.
Much like the title, it was developed with intention as I had become frustrated with the slow process my work requires. Intention was created through an exercise of precision from the beginning that pulled me in. The result is joyful, saturated, bright and dramatic.

The Return is an entirely imagined piece, but is greatly inspired by The South. The Return is a practice in tenacity - as I put it aside in my studio many times before its completion.
This piece was a journey, one that I kept returning to, and find myself captured by its smaller details.
